Matthew Richard grew up around barbecue.
Richard's family is behind Blazin' Blues BBQ, a St. Louis-based barbecue team that's competed in competitions like the American Royal World Series of Barbecue. As Richard got older and started paying attention to what he eats, he noticed that most barbecue sauces and rubs do not have healthy ingredients that the average consumer can pronounce. So, he decided to change that.
In February, Richard and his wife, Audrey, launched Halo & Cleaver. The company specializes in low-calorie, keto-friendly and gluten-free sauces and spice rubs that are made with natural ingredients. So far, Halo & Clear's best-seller is the Pure Gold barbecue sauce, a Carolina-style mustard-based sauce made with yellow mustard, apple cider vinegar, apple puree and green banana flour.
Richard's favorite, though, is the Mother Nature's Perfect Ketchup made with tomato, green bananas and apples with zero added sugar.
"It goes great with everything; it's a great replacement for a brand like Heinz that people have been using for years," Richard says. "We've really provided a great solution for those looking to eat healthier, and for people who want food without all the other chemical additives that are in a lot of other low calorie products."
You can buy Halo & Cleaver products at all Supplement Superstores in St. Louis, Kansas and Illinois, as well as on the company's website.
