What happens when two of the city's most popular restaurants join forces?
In the case of Balkan Treat Box and Mission Taco Joint, a chicken döner-style taco.
The Balkan-inspired restaurant, which recently opened a brick-and-mortar location in Webster Groves, Missouri, to much fanfare, is teaming up with Mission Taco (which operates locations in the Delmar Loop, Soulard, the Central West End and St. Charles) on a new taco for a limited time.
Developed by Mission Taco chef and co-owner Jason Tilford and Balkan Treat Box chef and co-owner Loryn Nalic, the taco is a twist on Balkan's popular chicken döner. The taco features wood-fired chicken topped with a fefferoni (a small pickled pepper), pico de gallo, shredded cabbage, harissa yogurt sauce and fresh crumbled cheese.
The taco will be available for $3.75 at all St. Louis-area locations of Mission Taco starting Wed., April 24. A portion of proceeds throughout the run of the special will be donated to the Gateway Area National Multiple Sclerosis Society, which has a personal tie for Nalic and her husband, Edo.
The taco will also be available at Balkan Treat Box's Webster storefront for one day only on Wed., April 24, with 100 percent of proceeds from sales of the taco that day going to the charity.
