Bar K, an off-leash dog park with a full bar and restaurant, is now open in St. Louis

Dog-lovers in St. Louis have a new place to unwind with their canine friends. Bar K, an off-leash dog park featuring a full bar and restaurant, officially opened Nov. 19.

Bar K opened its first location in Kansas City in 2018. The St. Louis location, which is located off McRee and Vandeventer avenues in The Grove neighborhood, features a 2-acre outdoor dog park, a 10,000-square-foot indoor dog park, a separate no-dogs-allowed dining room and three bars (two indoor and one outdoor).

The food menu – which can be enjoyed either in the indoor dining room or outside bar area – is almost identical to that of the Kansas City location. The self-described "healthy casual" menu features bar snacks, salads, soups, sandwiches, bowls and a few desserts. Shareables include Nashville-style chicken bites, a house-baked soft pretzel with beer cheese sauce, hummus and pita, fries and loaded chips. With the "healthy casual" focus in mind, Bar K does offer several fresh, seasonal salads, including a classic chopped salad, chicken apple salad with Tuscan Italian dressing, grilled steak salad with creamy horseradish dressing and fresh ahi tuna salad with ginger-soy dressing.

Larger options include hand-breaded chicken tenders, a classic burger, a marinated and grilled portabella mushroom sandwich and a chicken-avocado sandwich, as well as a few bowls. Customizable Bar K Bowls feature seasoned cilantro white rice, fresh diced tomato, toasted farro, marinated pinto beans, red onion, queso fresco and fresh lime with your choice of grilled steak, chicken or portabella mushrooms, but those craving something more decadent can also opt for a mac 'n' cheese bowl with brown butter breadcrumbs.

Available both inside and outside, the bar menu features draft beers, wines by the glass and house cocktails, plus plenty of canned options including wine, seltzer, cider and cocktails. Signature cocktails include the Doggie Pile (New Amsterdam gin and vodka, Bacardi Silver Rum, Exotico Tequila, triple sec, apple cider and lemon topped with cinnamon and red apple) and the Russian Brew-Hound (housemade Bar K cold brew, Burnett's Whipped Cream Vodka, Baileys Irish Cream, honey and cinnamon), plus a few hot cocktails (think boozy hot chocolate, chai with whiskey and hot cider) to warm guests up while their pups play outside. Nonalcoholic options are also available, including fresh smoothies and a full coffee, espresso and tea menu in partnership with Kaldi's Coffee Roasting Co.

At Bar K, dogs can get in on the fun, too. The dog-friendly food menu includes beef stew (ground beef, Yukon potatoes, carrots and celery), chicken risotto (chicken, white rice, carrots and Parmesan), turkey-sweet potato meatballs, peanut butter-carob cookies made by Three Dog Bakery and more. For those really looking to pamper their pooch, dog-friendly beer from Beer Paws and wine from Pet Winery are also available.

Bar K will initially be open Monday through Friday from 2 to 10pm and Saturday through Sunday from 9am to 10pm.
