Bee-Transformed Artisan Pizza Crusts offers pizza crust flavors for all of your favorite toppings.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to a plethora of take-and-bake pizza options, but Bee-Transformed Artisan Pizza Crusts offers pizza crusts that are head and shoulders above most.

Springfield-based maker Bev Hovey was a longtime customer of Bee-Transformed before she took over the business in 2018, when the founders moved away from the city. “I was one of their best customers, for sure,” she says with a laugh. “They were always very customer-focused, and we’d been working together for several years, so when they asked me to step in, I said yes.”

At her shop, Honey Heaven, on Glenwood Street, Hovey sells incredible honey products – think honey butter, honey mustard and “heavenly nectars” in flavors ranging from orange blossom to wildflower and buckwheat to sorghum. She also sells health and beauty products such as salve and lip balm infused with honey. But we know – you’re here for the pizza.

Prior to purchasing Bee-Transformed, Hovey launched a bistro inside her shop, where she uses the artisan pizza crusts for small pizzas such as the poblano crust smothered with Buffalo wing sauce and topped with chicken breast, celery, mozzarella, blue cheese crumbles and red pepper queso fresco from Terrell Creek Farm. She says she also enjoys when fans send her creative special requests – most notably, a sweet and spicy pizza with Anaheim, jalapeño and sweet peppers.

The from-scratch pizza crusts themselves are what set the pizzas apart – although the high-quality ingredients, of course, enhance each bite. The doughs of the crusts are packed with their own fantastic flavors before being rolled out, parbaked and packaged to sell. Customers can choose from flavors such as sweet pepper-Asiago, pepper Jack-herb, Parmesan-herb, sun-dried tomato-basil, garlic-rosemary and bacon-Cheddar.

“These crusts are a world of flavor,” says Hovey.

The original herb crust is vegan, and Bee-Transformed also offers paleo and keto versions, catering to a wide variety of dietary needs. The vegan and paleo crusts are either six or 12 inches, while the keto crust is only available in 12 inches.

Once you get the crusts home, Hovey recommends using them for more than pizzas; try slicing them and using them as breadsticks or croutons. If you don’t plan to use them right away, however, make sure to store them in the freezer. From freezer to table, the crusts can be topped and reheated in the oven in 10 to 15 minutes, and they still taste like they’ve been baked fresh.

Hovey continues to sell Bee-Transformed pizza crusts, alongside Bee-Transformed honey, at the Farmers Market of the Ozarks, and now her local artisan products are available at the new Metro Eats farmers’ market, too. For keto crusts, in particular, stop by Mama Jean’s Natural Market, and for pre-orders and special requests, call Hovey at 417.869.0233 or text 417.294.0805.
