Owner Raven Cotton says a late-night need for Swiffer batteries first sparked the idea for Park Central Market. The market, now open in downtown Springfield, carries necessities like grab-and-go meals, alcohol, snacks galore and other convenience items like – you guessed it – batteries.
A haven for college students or others on the move, customers will find a coffee and soda station to fuel up for a busy day. There are individual snack bars and sweets to purchase, featuring nearly every type of candy bar or road trip snack your heart may desire. The market, notably close to downtown apartment-dwellers, has everything hungry residents would need for a PB&J– even a pack of disposable plates and paper towels.
As you walk in, Park City Market has provided a case full of meals from Springfield caterer Simply Delicious and sushi by Ocean Zen. There are options for vegetarian lunches, too, including a salad or rice bowl with chickpeas for protein.
On the opposite side of the entrance, Cotton has stocked shelves with other locally crafted items, including candles from Reborn Co. and a select grouping of cards. Whether it’s National Boss’ Day or a forgotten birthday, Park Central has just the right selection for a quick stop on the way to a downtown office.
Cotton says she’s excited to be able to promote other Springfield-based businesses. “The fact that I can support local is a huge plus,” she says. Customers will note several local players in the beer section, too, as Park Central carries 6-packs from Mother’s Brewing Co., Springfield Brewing Co. and White River Brewing Co. Schlafly and Boulevard represent other regional favorites. The market has a wide selection of wine and liquor options, as well.
With the exit of downtown Springfield’s Bistro Market last June, the time is right for Park Central Market. Cotton says she is eager to expand on their convenience and grocery items as the weeks go on. And, like any convenience store owner, she’s learned what necessities folks buy most frequently. “You wouldn’t believe how many people have come in here looking for toothpaste,” she laughs.
