Mother's Brewing Co.'s take on hard seltzer will hit shelves next month.
The Springfield, Missouri brewery announced today that its new seltzer line, Ready Hard Seltzer, will debut in March. The seltzer clocks in at 100 calories per can and a 5 percent ABV and will be available in the tall, thin 12-ounce cans that have come to be associated with hard seltzers.
"It's what a lot of breweries now are doing to be able to reach new customers and to be able to provide more for the customers that they have," says Anne Mauldin, marketing director at Mother's.
The first two flavors to hit shelves will be blackberry-lemon and cherry limeade (inspired by Springfield's love of the cherry limeade at Sonic Drive-In). The brewery intentionally shifted away from flavors like lime, grapefruit and black cherry that have become popular in the hard seltzer market.
"It makes us just a little bit different, but not going too far outside of the box," Mauldin says.
For those who visit the Mother's taproom in Springfield, plenty of other flavors will be available. The unflavored seltzer will be on tap starting Feb. 18 with an array of flavored syrups that customers can add to create a unique beverage. Mother's will use the opportunity to collect feedback on those flavors to potentially decide a new flavor to release in cans.
The rollout of cans will begin in March. Customers will be able to find the seltzer wherever Mother's beer is sold.
