Shrouded in the beauty of the Ozark Mountains, Bear Creek Wine Co. has a winery, brewery, event space, cabins, lodge and more, but it now has a new way to keep you warm while you imbibe – the Walnut Shade, Missouri, venue has added “wine huts” to its winter lineup.

Manager Mandy Bonzer says the new heated wine huts give customers an option to snuggle up and enjoy libations during the winter. It costs $20 to rent the hut for 2 hours, and each hut seats four.

“They are so cute," she says. "They are lit up for the holidays. We are going to keep them through early spring. For Valentine’s Day we will decorate them with a Valentine’s Day theme. It’s a good way for people to be outdoors and separated and have some heat. They have been really popular."

There are also packages available; for $99.95, you can rent the hut and get a bottle of wine, pizza and chocolates for two. They will also soon offer special Valentine’s Day packages.

The five wine huts are set up where the winery's picnic table area is located during warmer months.

“We have been so busy this year because of COVID because we are an outdoor property," Bonzer says. "We hated for it to get chilly and us to give up the whole picnic area."

It’s best to call ahead to rent the wine huts, but walk-ins are welcome if huts are available. While there, customers can buy a beer, fruit wine or Bear Creek's private-label Missouri wine. Fruit wine flavors include blackberry, peach and rhubarb. The six beers on tap range from a smoked stout to a cranberry saison.

“We do small batches and change the flavors seasonally,” Bonzer says.

The huts are sanitized and aired out between each booking. To reserve a wine hut, call 417.443.0036.
