Do you look forward to cheesy holiday movies every year? Get a smile on your face when eggnog starts appearing on the shelves? If you are excited about the Christmas season all year long, then we've got some great news for you: Santa's Bakeshop is now open in Martin City. This holiday pop up hopes to bring out the kid in all of us, and looks to bring some Yuletide cheer to everyone over the holiday season.

This winter wonderland is the brainchild of Martin City Brewing Co. and several of its partners, and it kicks off this weekend. Santa's Bakeshop offers sweet treats to satisfy your hunger and plenty of other ways to bring the cheer. Creative Director Lynne Pierce says the goal was to provide a fun space to help people make some Christmas memories, while still allowing them to stay safe in these difficult times.

"This year has been really tough on a lot of people," Pierce says. "I have always loved the Christmas season, and we really wanted to help bring people some joy as the year comes to a close. We have a family-friendly space with lots of open air to enjoy treats, holiday lights and music."

It isn't hard to spot Santa's Bakeshop. Directly across the street from the original Martin City Brewing Co. location, you'll spot a large covered patio decked out in holiday lights. The Grinch is slinking away and a huge snowman welcomes newcomers. Plenty of photo opportunities abound: there's a large wooden sleigh and a cutout of a hot chocolate mug alongside plenty of other holiday décor.

Step into the patio and you'll see stockings hung by the chimney with care as you approach the walk-up window to order goodies. There will be three different cookie options on offer, and Santa's Bakeshop will rotate the flavors throughout the holiday season. You can also order a wide variety of ice cream flavors and hot chocolate with various toppings. If you're so inclined, you can spend a little extra to order your hot chocolate in a "Christmas in KC" keepsake mug to take home with you.

There will be some seating inside the heated, covered patio, but social distancing protocols are in full effect and masks will be required. That rule applies even outside the patio unless you are actively eating or drinking. If the patio is at capacity, there is plenty of space and seating under the winter sky as well. Pierce says she wants everyone to enjoy their time at Santa's Bakeshop, and notes that the holidays are a time for everyone to pitch in a little bit. If everyone is wearing a mask and being aware of their surroundings, it will help everyone else to feel more comfortable.

Speaking of pitching in, Santa's Bakeshop and its partners will also help provide a better holiday for those in need. The "Bag of Blessings" program gives guests an opportunity to purchase a high-quality tote bag, either at Santa's Bakeshop, at Love, Coffee in Lee's Summit or through their online retailer. The group will donate 100 percent of the profits from each of these Bag of Blessings sales to a local food pantry. It's another way that Santa's Bakeshop is trying to improve the local community and help strengthen the bonds between all of us. Pierce notes that everyone is going through a tough time right now, but the most vulnerable populations are being hit especially hard. Hunger and poverty levels are increasing amid COVID-19, and it seemed only natural to the spirit and culture of Santa's Bakeshop to do its part in helping combat those challenges.

Guests will also be able to pick up holiday gifts when they stop by. These items will be sourced from a range of local businesses, like clothing and other items for the special people on your Christmas list. You'll also be able to bring over takeout from a nearby spot – naturally, Pierce suggests grabbing a pizza from Martin City Brewing Co. – so you can just sit back and enjoy the setting. Light shows set to holiday music and blasts from a snow machine every 30 minutes will help turn this little spot into a Christmas wonderland and bring out the inner child in all of us.

We don't blame you if you're ready to get into the Christmas spirit, and Santa's Bakeshop is ready to roll for those who are. Check out their Instagram for updates on which of Santa's favorite cookies are currently being sold, and make sure you bundle up!

Santa's Bakeshop is open Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 9pm and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 9pm through the holiday season.
