Beau and Keely Williams are ready for romance as they prepare their craft cocktail bar, Julep, for the final week of its Valentine's Day pop-up bar, “Swipe Right,” which runs now through Sun., Feb. 16.
Fresh off two successful pop ups – including the popular Sippin' Santa concept as well as an original Halloween pop-up bar – the couple thought it just made sense to extend the idea to Valentine’s Day, especially with the holiday falling on a Friday this year.
The Miracle concept will return, and also offer a new Tiki-themed iteration.
“Secretly, I love hosting them, and as someone with an art history background, these cocktail pop-up events give me something fun to work on,” says Keely. The couple want to make sure that Julep’s pop-up experiences feel immersive to the guest, so they divide the work and share in the creative challenge, with Keely developing the theme and décor and Beau and his team developing the cocktails.
The name of their playful pop-up, of course, is inspired by the dating app Tinder, in which a person swipes right if they are interested in someone. Keely has built on that theme by turning both the main bar, Champagne room and private cocktail lounge, Soft Conspiracy, into separate spaces that all celebrate a love for rom-com movies and TV shows.
The second bar concept located in Julep’s back room seats around 20.
Beau and his team have developed five unique cocktails around the Valentine’s Day theme, including Some Like It Hot, a hot chocolate with mezcal and whipped cream, and Pretty Woman, a vodka drink that is both sweet and sour. Casablanca is a take on a classic French 75 cocktail complete with bubbles, From Here To Eternity is a tiki-inspired drink and Crazy, Stupid Love is their take on a classic Old Fashioned. There are also some clever food specials built around the pop-up theme; guests can ask their server for details.
“Beau and I enjoy hosting a good party, and Swipe Right was created to celebrate the real pop culture references that we all know and love around Valentine’s Day, without all of the pressure to be perfect that his holiday can bring,” says Keely. “This is definitely not an anti-Valentine’s Day celebration either, because we love love at Julep.”
Guests can make reservations for “Swipe Right” via Tock. Reservations are still available and encouraged, especially for Valentine’s Day weekend.
