The beauty of Kansas City's Mesob – beside the delicious food – is that you aren't restricted to a single cuisine. Mesob specializes in both Ethiopian and Caribbean dishes, so you can choose from a wide range of flavors no matter what you are craving.
One of our favorites is the Drunken Konk, which features flash-fried Bahamian conch tossed in Appleton Rum sweet ginger glaze and is served with crispy rice noodles. Conch is not the most common of shellfish, especially in Missouri, so it makes for a unique dish that is hard to find in other restaurants. Plus, the glaze's combination of rum and ginger tastes so tropical that if you shut your eyes, you can almost pretend that the temperatures aren't dropping outside.
If you want to keep the Caribbean theme going throughout your meal, you can't go wrong with traditional oxtail or a Jerk take on chicken and waffles. But the Ethiopian dishes – ranging from beef tibs to shrimp tibs to lamb tibs – also promise to warm you up and leave you satisfied.
