There are plenty of places to get a good taco in Columbia, but you probably won't find as many creative fillings as you will at 44 Canteen. Alongside classic combinations like shrimp tacos with cabbage and radishes and chicken with lime aïoli and pickled red onions, you'll find some unexpected combinations.
Many of the best tacos at 44 Canteen play on dishes you already know and love. The Sloppy Jose, for instance, riffs on a sloppy joe, filled with housemade chicken chorizo, a smoked chile sauce, queso fresco, avocado, cilantro and pickled red onion. The Philly IPA Steak is stuffed with Boulevard Brewing Co. IPA-marinated steak paired with miso-grilled onions, roasted poblano pepper, a queso sauce, Cheddar cheese and, yes, seasoned french fries. Looking for something vegetarian? Opt for a taco packed with seasoned sweet potato wedges, crema, pinto bean and roasted poblano pico, pickled red onion, cilantro and radish.
44 Canteen is offering its menu for carryout and limited dine-in service.
