The fictional character Jay Gatsby spared no expense on celebratory occasions. In Columbia, Peachtree Catering plans to ring in the New Year Gatsby-style with the biggest, most lavish Sunday Supper yet – and you’re invited.
Chefs Ben Hamrah and Amanda Elliott (who's also a Feast columnist) launched the Sunday Supper series in early 2018, bringing events centered on local, high-quality fare, and the idea of a true community dining experience to mid-Missouri.
They’ll end the year on a high note (and on a Monday, not Sunday) with a New Year's Eve bash. “It’s kind of the evolution of Sunday Supper,” Hamrah says. “It’s something Amanda has been wanting to do for a long time.” A flowing Champagne bar, caviar, a cigar bar and dancing, all set to live music, are just some of the highlights of this black-tie event – and none of it’s fiction.
“We all love puttin’ on the Ritz; we all love a good party,” he says. “And that is exactly what we’re going for with this NYE Sunday supper. We’re getting ingredients that we don’t normally think about using. There definitely will still be local [ingredients], but this is one that won’t be as highly influenced because things like caviar and truffles aren’t necessarily produced locally,”
This event will differ from the Sunday Supper series in various ways, including the size, which is expanded from its usual 20 seats to a ballroom party. And dinner won’t be the main attraction. “It’s not a sit-down dinner like Sunday Supper normally is,” Hamrah says. “People will be able to sit or lounge or relax if they want to, but it’s more dancing and mingling and perusing…there’s a lot that’s going to be going on.”
Like Sunday Suppers before, guests will need to purchase tickets prior to the event, which will be held at Peachtree Event Center in Columbia. In addition to dinner, The Sunday Supper Experience package includes valet parking, a welcome cocktail, Champagne toast and access to a cash bar throughout the night. For those who want the unlimited experience, choose “The Way Gatsby Intended” option. You’ll be chauffeured in a luxury SUV to and from the party, and won’t have to spend another dollar on food or drink once you step inside.
As always is the case with Sunday Suppers, there will be plenty of surprises for guests throughout the event, which runs from 7pm to 2am on New Year's Eve. Be sure to reserve your ticket through Eventbrite before Dec. 30.
