It has been a busy month for openings downtown and in the River Market, with the impressive (and very large) dog park, beer garden, bar and restaurant Bar K opening in Berkley Riverfront Park, as well as the bar, restaurant and bookstore Our Daily Nada at 3rd and Delaware Streets. The very popular Betty Rae’s Ice Cream also opened its second shop at 4th and Delaware, while Meshuggah Bagels opened at 13th and Walnut Streets.

Further south, Flying Horse Taproom opened in East Brookside, serving pizza and a bevvy of local beers on tap, and Hurts Donut Co. saw lines out the door at Ward Parkway Center for its fresh, creative donut flavors. A little further flung but no less important, Lark a Fare opened its doors in Lawrence, serving Midwestern comforts and brunch. Noah’s Cupboard now brings farm-to-table fare to Weston’s Main Street, and Sohaila’s Kitchen is serving family recipes from India and Pakistan in Lenexa Public Market.

Kansas City said goodbye to a two classics this month, including Fritz’s Chili in Overland Park and Justus Drugstore in Smithville (chef Johnathan Justus is looking for a new home for his original restaurant). Also saying goodbye is West Bottoms Kitchen, Domo in Brookside and the Grille at Park Place in Lenexa.

A few highly anticipated openings are just around the corner in Kansas City, including the food hall and bar Parlor, as well as Fox & Pearl (Sept. 11) and of course, Shake Shack on the Plaza (Sept. 6).
